, which i found on wiki. cut text is from life being what it is by kaki king.
Changmin took a different route home from school that day. He didn't know why he was compelled to take the scenic route, but there he was, crunching through the leaves on the sidewalk. The sun shone golden through the bare branches, its heat not enough to warm his face, chilled by winds from the north. He was too stubborn to do up his blazer against the cold, and his scarf hung, rejected, from his backpack.
There was a boy up the street, dribbling a soccer ball. He was wearing the same school uniform, but had his scarf wound several times about his neck. He kicked the ball, and it bounced backwards off a tree.
"Hey!" shouted the boy, and Changmin looked up from the ball now resting against his shoes. "Hey, pass it back!"
Changmin took his time, small, controlled kicks until he was level with the boy. "Hi," he said.
The other boy frowned. He didn't look much older than Changmin, but he had a sixth year's prefect badge pinned to his lapel. "Hi," he said grudgingly (which Changmin thought was ridiculous, because he had only greeted the boy politely, not robbed him at knifepoint — or worse, punctured his soccer ball.)
"I'm Changmin," said Changmin.
The boy narrowed his eyes and replied, "Junsu."
"Do you live around here?" Changmin asked, ignoring the older boy's hostility.
Junsu shrugged. "Maybe," he said, and stole his ball back. "Catch me if you can!"
Changmin laughed, readjusted his backpack, and gave chase.
