Summary: Junsu embraces earth.
Junsu is five years old and the grass is the greenest thing he has ever seen in the sum of his short life. He walks barefoot through the dewy turf, sinking his feet into the mulch, things shorn and new.
“You need to wear shoes, Junsu!” Junsu’s father calls laughingly and picks up his young son with one arm. Small, kid-sized soccer shoes dangle by the laces in the crook of the other.
A blue blur streaks by in the field. Junho with his new uniform. He cradles the ball between his feet, taps it up to his knees and bounces it joyfully. Junsu and Junho are twins but Junho’s just a little bigger. A little faster to crawl, to walk. Junsu peers wordlessly as his brother dances in the humid afternoon, dandelion fluff caught in summer wind.
Safe in the arms of his father, Junsu inhales earth. Thick and sweet. He squirms, desperate to get down and embrace it. Junsu’s father guffaws as Junsu quickly nabs the shoes from him and squats down into the grass, shins stained as he hurriedly pulls them on.
Junho stands against the sun, a beckoning dream, and Junsu giggles and runs after him.
