Summary: Junsu gives his first kiss away to someone he's not sure he loves.
Junsu does not get his first kiss until he is twenty, with a girl his mother introduced to him from church. She has a pale, heart-shaped face, and manicured hands with the nails painted bubble gum pink. Junsu’s palms sweat and his heart races in anticipation. The parking lot is nearly empty, but he pulls the van into a small neglected corner of the lot and he fumbles with the car keys and leans across the driver’s seat to where Minah is sitting. She has her eyes shut and he presses a small chaste kiss across her closed lips, then lingers a little longer. When she begins to press back, he jerks away, the feeling in his heart heavy with a dull cold weight.
It is a sweet first love, but between his schedules in Japan and Korea, and sometimes flying from country to country multiple times a day, Minah grows hesitant and Junsu so sorry that eventually, they decide to break up. When Junsu lies down on the marble top of their kitchen counter, Yoochun is the one who seeks him out. The surface cools and soothes like the polished wood of a studio room where Junsu used to spend hours in, after lessons, to work on his dance and singing as a trainee.
“You really miss her, don’t you?” Yoochun asks, touching Junsu’s hair. The stylist dyed it brown for the summer and it has grown over Junu’s ears and the nape of his neck. The way Yoochun caresses prickles the ends of Junsu’s hairdo against his skin.
“I do,” Junsu says, but he’s not sure if he misses Minah. He thinks he might miss just having someone to himself. He never has anything to himself; all of his earnings automatically go into his parents’ savings account, he shares a bedroom with two others in the DBSK dorm, and even most of his clothes are fan gifts. But he grows unhappy when he thinks that way, so Junsu stops those thoughts and sinks back into a pleasant haze.
Changmin is sitting on a stool by the kitchen counter and even with his head turned away towards Yoochun, Junsu can feel Changmin’s curious gaze on him; it rotates afar but comes back, hopelessly attracted, like a lighthouse beacon to the farthest horizon on the sea.
Yoochun murmurs honeyed, trifling words that don’t mean anything; it’s the same seductions he offers to his girls. There’s never a promise rolled in them, just a momentary affection, but Junsu closes his eyes and lets the flirtations slide onto his tongue and into his belly where they warm him from the inside-out like embers from a fire. He stays there, content, even when Yoochun departs and Changmin moves in.
A kiss, laid softly between his eyebrows.
Junsu opens his eyes to Changmin, all angelic face and awkward limbs.
“Don’t fall for him,” Changmin whispers. “He’ll only break your heart.”
And Junsu remembers that Changmin is eighteen and hasn’t had his first kiss yet.
